The Inbet…Chickens (Channel 4)
So Chickens…had so much potential right? I had been looking forward to this show ever since they previewed a trailer several weeks ago. What we ended up getting was quite a disappointing World War 2 version of the Inbetweeners.
To start with the characterisation was extremely unoriginal…briefcase wanker with a beard and bow tie and Simon with 110% more gel. Bert was a disappointing character it looked like the creators took the chraracter profile of Inbetweeners simpleton Neil added a slight moustache and tried to make him even more simple.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse they introduce the headmaster… where have I seen this hateful arrogant head teacher character before?
There is a very heavy focus on the female characters too especially “Will’s” sister, and the recent widow, these characters feel very rushed in they’re creation, It just seems they’ve been added to antagonise the main characters and create some conflict.
The comedy is very crude and at points they turn to fat jokes to try and score cheap laughs, like caning the “fatty” not particularly funny.
Now I know I have been very harsh to a show that lets face it is still very new, so let me pick up on some positives.
Set and costumes are brilliant, they really give the feel of a british war time village that works very well with the cinematic looking camera work. You really get a feel for the size of the village and it does feel fairly real.
I would love to hear what you thought about it if you watched it! feel free to comment below!
